Any good acting books, or acting out books, a book to study your acting skills?

    i can buy or check out at nypl?

  • There are books which may give you an insight into the actors mind, and how to approach acting as an art form (which it is) which must be taken seriously.
    The best books are;

    Acting: The First Six Lessons - Richard Boleslavsky
    The Actor Prepares - Constantin Stanislavsky
    Building a Character - Constantin Stanislavsky
    Creating a Role - Constantin Stanislavsky
    To The Actor - Michael Chekhov

    However I must stress that, while these books will help as a stand alone read, they work best when read in conjunction with a acting training at a drama school.
    Hope that helps.

  • I'm sure there are but you can't learn acting from a book.
    The only proper way to learn how to act is to get lessons. A book will tell you things like "don't drop out of character", "don't turn your back to the audience" - but the finer points (the very foundations of good acting) can only be learnt in person.
    If you try to learn how to act from a book you will understand some basic concepts but your ability will be limited.
    If you're serious about learning, you'll understand where I'm coming from.
    Good Luck

  • If you would like to study acting theory, as well as basic character work, you should check out any of the works by Constantine Stanislavsky. His methods will help you refine your skills as well as show you how to develop characters more effectively. It is the basic text for most beginning acting classes at the university level. You should be able to fine it at any public library. Good luck!
