  • Psst....the guy with the ball.

  • FSW could have letterboxed it, like FSE did when they had an HDNet feed of a Champ Car race two weeks ago.

Well, it certainly helps to hear the HDTV explanation, but it would be nice if they could do something about it for us with older sets that can't change the aspect.

While I'm whining about Fox, did anybody happen to watch the FSWE broadcast of this match? Jim CurtiS? Al Curtis, and my favorite, DemaScus Beasley! Did someone give these guys special joke programs? Or are they really that illiterate? To be fair, he finally did correct the Jim CurtiN and even commented on his mistake. But Demascus Beasley kept mientras tanto-ing his way down the wing to the very end.

  • No kidding. Say what you will about ABC/ESPN2, but the FSW coverage is all nickle and dime. I'm curious though Kenn, why is it that they go to greater lengths for USL matches? PBP, color, sideline, all on location. As for the HDNet, I'd only tell the camera guy to point it directly at the ball, not just to the right of the ball.

  • If I understand you correctly, someone's actually paying MLS for it's broadcasts?

  • If you were watching in widescreen it was fine. That's one of the problems with picking up HD broadcasts.

  • I'm glad we're not discussing this anywhere else, and having to give the same explanations to people.

  • frustrating as hell, but whatever, it was better than reading PBP posts on here.

  • I assume you watched the game on FSW.

They picked up the feed from HDNet, which is shot in High-Def(widescreen). That is why the guy with the ball was often cropped out of the regular TV format.

Frustrating as hell, wasn't it? Unfortunately, the Galavision cameramen at the US-Sierra Leone game today wasn't much better.

  • I was happy to see as little of the run of play from the Chi-DC match as possible. I wish the cameraman had been worse.

  • as much as i love fox sports world, their production values on mls games could not be much lower

they didn't even had the usual post game reporter this week, although christian miles does so little at these games i am amazed they spend the $$ to send him

poor sound: one game actually had crowd sound from a different game, as did the beginning of this weeks dc vs chi game

their lack of compensating for the feed from hdnet is sad

and of course the announcers are usually horrendous. allen hopkins steps it up a notch or two for them

most i feel like i am watching local high school football on cable access

But, yes, they were awful, too.
