As a project I'm looking to cobble together a small form-factor
computer using available parts. I'm fairly well versed in IBM-related
computer architecture but I've come across one issue that has stumped
me: interfacing LCD screens. I'd like to connect an small LCD screen
to a small single board computer e.g. Kontron's Jrex-GX:

From what I've read I know that LCD screens can be connected to the
LVDS port on the board, what I can't find information on is the
following:
1) is it a case of simply buying an LCD from say Samsung, Toshiba, and
it will already have the necessary connector attached and I can plug
it in to the LVDS port, and voila a nice display?
2) If not the above, what do I need to interface the LCD and LVDS?
I've seen LCD controller cards advertised but I can't see exactly when
they are needed.
3) What should I look for in the specification of the SBC and LCD to
indicate compatibility?
4) I assume I'll need some sort of custom driver for either the LCD or
the LVDS? do these come with the screen/board? are
they available for
Win and Linux?
5)would a LCD panel connected to the LVDS port require a further power
supply or does the LVDS provide this?
Cheers
